Kanji

I have not been blogging regularly due to the fact that I have still not got my BSNL Broadband connection in spite of going and meeting the concerned person 4-5 times. This has also slowed down my official work since I work from home. Now this is one disadvantage if you work from home.

Coming back to the blog topic, Kanji is referred to as 'Porridge' in english. It is so filling and almost fat free, that it is a good dish for people on diet. Kanji can be made from so many different ingredients, but I am writing about my favorite. My patti taught me this recipe. Here we go with the preparation.

Ingredients

Wheat - 1 kg
White Channa - 100 gm
Sabudana - 100 gm
Dried Peas - 100 gm
Dried Black Eyed Beans (Karamani) - 100 gm
Ragi - 100 gm
Dried Corn - 100 gm

Preparation

Dry roast all the ingredients separately. Mix all the roasted ingredients together. Grind and sieve them finely. You can store this powder in an air-tight jar for a year.

For preparing the actual kanji:
For 3 tbsp of Kanji use 1 glass of water and 1 glass of milk and 2 tbsp of sugar. (You can use 2 glasses of milk instead of using water. Use sugar as required). Boil till bubbles start breaking in the mixture. Stir the ingredients together continuously to avoid lumps.

Kanji is ready and yummy!!!
