Daali Betti

I got this recipe through Twitter. We were discussing about some interesting recipes and Priya Raju shared this recipe with me. I made this the very next day and it has become one of the popular recipes in the house.

The original recipe is here. Here we go with my version:

Ingredients

Tuvar Dhal - 1/2 cup
Rice - 1 cup
Cumin Seeds - 2 tsp
Ginger - 1 inch
Green Chillies - 5
Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup
Mustard Seed - 1 tsp
Vegetables - 2 cups (I used brinjals, potato and ridge gourd)
Turmeric - a pinch
Oil
Salt - as per taste

Preparation

Grind coconut with cumin seeds, green chilies and salt to a paste.
Heat oil and add mustard. Add curry leaves, chopped ginger, vegetables, dhal, rice and turmeric. Add the paste with around 4 cups water. Allow 3 whistles in pressure cooker.

Daali Betti is ready and Yummy!!!

Note: In the original recipe it is said that this is best taste with Tambli (asafoetida or ginger). I have never tried this out out of sheer laziness.

Daali Betti tastes yumm with yogurt too...
